What is a reverse mortgage?

A reverse mortgage is a groundbreaking loan that allows homeowners to access the equity within their own home.

It is available to anyone 62 years or older and gives them the opportunity to remain in their cherished abode when they may have faced the possibility of having to sell it.

Homeowners can be paid in many different ways including weekly or monthly payments or a line of credit, and all with the peace of mind of knowing they can remain in their home.

The real strength of a reverse mortgage is that while the terms of the loan are met, there is no need to repay the loan until either the homeowner sells the residence or the last surviving borrower passes away.

It means retirees can stop stressing about money and start living again.

Housing prices are climbing and San Rafael has seen a bump of over 6 percent over the last 12 months with the average property now worth $1,448,019. (

There are already 1,081 people in and around San Rafael taking advantage of reverse mortgages. In the last 12 months, 120 more have taken up the opportunity this amazing loan presents.

About San Rafael, California

First home to the coastal native Miwok people, then later a Spanish mission, San Rafael is named after the Archangel Raphael- the angel of healing. The early settlement, and later the city, quickly grew with the arrival of the North Pacific & San Francisco railroads.

In 1913 American banker and journalist Frank Vanderlip purchased 25 square miles of property on the peninsula on behalf of wealthy east coast investors for the then tidy-sum of $1.5 million. Today the community is home to over 40,000 residents according to the U.S. Census.

Local attractions include China Camp State Park, Mission San Rafael Arcangel, Mountain View Winery, and Point Reyes Lighthouse.
